Where the campus is
Micron lists its principal executive offices at 8000 S. Federal Way, Boise, ID 83716, in its SEC filings (Form 8-K, June 25, 2025). That puts it in southeast Boise, along Federal Way south of the Boise Airport.
The nearest interstate access is I-84 Exit 57, which the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) identifies as the SH-21/Gowen Road interchange (ITD news release). Gowen Road and Federal Way are the two names you'll see most when you map routes.
The campus is also growing. Micron says it plans two leading-edge fabs (chip factories) in Boise, expected to create over 17,000 jobs, and that DRAM output from the first Idaho fab is scheduled to begin in 2027 (Micron's Idaho expansion page). Construction and growth can change traffic patterns over time, which is one more reason to test your own drive.
Four directions to look
There's no single right answer here. These are the four directions people usually map from the campus, listed by geography rather than in any order of preference. Drive times depend on the exact address and the hour, so we don't quote them.
| Direction | Places to know | Go deeper |
|---|---|---|
| Southeast Boise | Columbia Village, Surprise Valley | Boise homes · Southeast Boise and the East End · Columbia Village, Surprise Valley, and Mayfield Springs |
| East / Barber Valley | Harris Ranch | Boise foothills planned communities · Harris Ranch homes |
| West on I-84 | Meridian, Kuna, Nampa | West and Southwest Boise homes · Meridian 83642 and 83646 · Moving to Kuna · Treasure Valley cities |
| East on I-84 (Elmore County) | Mayfield Springs, Mountain Home | Columbia Village, Surprise Valley, and Mayfield Springs · Mountain Home AFB housing · Mountain Home homes |
Southeast Boise
This is the part of Boise around Federal Way and Gowen Road. Columbia Village and Surprise Valley are two planned communities in this area. You'll also find the City of Boise's Simplot Sports Complex, which the City describes as a 161-acre special-use area. Browse Boise homes and narrow on the map.
East and the Barber Valley
Northeast of the campus, along the Boise River, is the Barber Valley and the Harris Ranch planned community. Our Boise foothills planned communities guide covers how planned communities like this work, and you can browse Harris Ranch homes directly.
West on I-84
Head west on I-84 and you reach Meridian, then Nampa, with Kuna to the southwest. Each has its own city hub: Meridian, Nampa, Kuna, and Caldwell farther west. For how the cities differ in housing types and layout, see Treasure Valley cities.
East on I-84 into Elmore County
East on I-84 you leave Ada County. Mayfield Springs is a planned community in Elmore County, reached via Desert Wind Road off I-84, according to Elmore County's staff report. It's in the City of Boise, but on the Elmore County side, so county-level items like the assessor record and property taxes run through Elmore County, not Ada County. Farther east is Mountain Home; see Mountain Home homes.
How to test a commute before you buy
Online drive-time estimates are a starting point, not an answer. Here's how to check a commute for real:
- Drive it at your hours. Test the drive from the exact address at the hours you'll commute, both ways, on a weekday. If you're house-hunting from out of state, plan this into your visit (our out-of-state buying guide has tips).
- Check current conditions. ITD's Idaho 511 shows live road conditions, construction, and closures, including around the Gowen interchange.
- Know what's planned, not promised. The Community Planning Association of Southwest Idaho (COMPASS) lists a 2026 study of I-84 from Gowen Road in Boise to Mountain Home in its FY2026–2032 project list (PDF). That's a study, not construction. COMPASS's Let's Ride Treasure Valley memo (PDF) says a peak-period express bus route is planned to connect Nampa, Meridian, the Boise Airport, and Micron. Treat both as plans that may change.
- Look at transit and vanpools. Check ValleyRide for current bus routes and Commuteride for vanpool options before you count on either.

What to check about any home on your list
| Ask | Where to find it |
|---|---|
| Is it in a city (like Boise) or unincorporated county (Ada or Elmore)? | The county assessor's record for the address |
| Is there an HOA? | The CC&Rs (the community's recorded rules); see our Idaho HOA guide |
| New construction or resale? | The listing details; see new construction vs. resale |
| Have you tested the commute at your hours? | Your own drive, plus Idaho 511 |
School assignment depends on the address, so check with the district for any home you're serious about.
