Relocating
Relocation-package questions before you house-hunt in Boise
An offer letter may mention relocation help. The details differ by employer and by employee. Ask for your written summary, then house-hunt.
Browse homes: Treasure Valley · Boise · Meridian · Nampa · Eagle
You can browse homes before HR answers every question. Save this search on the cities you are considering. Talk to a local expert when you want help with the Idaho side. No obligation.
Get the benefit in writing
Online posts and recruiter remarks are not your package. Ask the recruiter or HR for the written summary that applies to you: what is covered, what you pay first and get back later, and the deadline to use it.
If the new job is at Micron's Boise campus, the housing search is still yours to do. BrowseIdaho is not affiliated with Micron Technology. Homes near the campus is a commute map, not a benefits page.
Questions for HR
Take this list to the person who administers the benefit. Write down the answers.
- Is there a house-hunting trip? How many days, and who books the travel?
- Is temporary housing included? For which dates around your start date? What kind of housing is it?
- Who pays to move your household goods, and when do they arrive compared with your first day?
- Is there help with closing costs, a lease break, or duplicate housing? Do you pay first and submit receipts?
- Are any of these benefits taxable? Ask payroll, not a real estate article.
- Must you use a named company, or may you choose your own local expert in Idaho?
- What is the deadline, and what happens if your start date moves?
- What is excluded? Assume something is excluded until the summary says it is covered.
What the benefit does not decide
A relocation benefit does not choose the city, the price, or the loan. Preapproval is still a conversation with a lender. Closing costs are still on your Closing Disclosure, whether or not an employer reimburses a line later.
If you are selling a home in the city you are leaving, the sale has its own timeline. Buying and selling at the same time lays out sell-first, buy-first, and overlapping paths. Rent first or buy now is the start-date version of that choice.
Shopping before you arrive is covered in buying an Idaho home from out of state. A paid trip does not replace a local expert for showings and the offer.
Then start the housing search
Once you know the deadline and whether temporary housing exists, browse Treasure Valley homes and save a search. Test the commute from any house you are serious about. The benefit may pay for the trip. It does not drive the route for you.

FAQ
- Does this page describe my employer's relocation package?
- No. Packages differ by employer and by employee. Ask HR for the written summary that applies to you.
- What should I ask before I look at homes?
- Ask about a house-hunting trip, temporary housing, the moving shipment, closing-cost or lease-break help, taxes, whether you must use a named company, and the deadline.
- Can I choose my own local expert in Boise?
- Sometimes yes, sometimes the benefit names a company. Ask before you assume. You can still talk with a local expert about Idaho homes.
- Will the employer pay my closing costs?
- Only if your written summary says so. Even then, the Closing Disclosure is the bill. Reimbursement, if any, is a separate step with your employer.
- Should I buy before I start work?
- It depends on your start date, your financing, and whether temporary housing is part of your benefit. Read the rent-first guide and talk with a lender before you set a closing date.
- Where do I browse once I know the deadline?
- Open the Treasure Valley hub, or a single city, set your filters, and save the search. The out-of-state buying guide covers tours if you are not here yet.
